Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with Third-Countries. In addition, it contributes to the development of human resources and the international cooperation capacity of Higher education institutions in third countries by increasing mobility between the European Union and these countries.

This Call for Proposals aims to support projects under all three Actions of the programme:

Action 1: Erasmus Mundus Joint Programmes

• Action 1A: Erasmus Mundus Master Courses (EMMC)
• Action 1B: Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates (EMJD)

Action 2: Erasmus Mundus Partnerships

• Action 2 – STRAND 1:  Partnerships with countries covered by the ENPI, DCI, EDF and IPA instruments (former External Cooperation Window)

• Action 2 – STRAND 2: Partnerships with countries and territories covered by the Industrialised Countries Instrument (ICI)

Action 3: Promotion of European higher education

• Projects to enhance the Attractiveness of European higher education

2010 YouthActionNet Global Fellowship

Eligibility 

• Open to all young people, ages 18-29 as of September 1, 2010
• Applicants must be the founder/co-founder of an existing organization, or a project within an organization, with a demonstrated one year track record of leading societal change
• Proficiency in English is required; applications must be submitted in English
• Applicants must attend the full retreat, October 1-8, 2010 (all expenses paid)

QUICK BACKGROUND:
The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) is an annual programme sponsored by the Japanese Government and supported by the member-countries of ASEAN.

The programme brings together more than 300 youth from ASEAN countries and Japan, providing them with the unique opportunity to live together on board the Japanese ship Nippon Maru for over 40 days.

SSEAYP started in January 1974 based on Joint Statements issued between Japan and the five ASEAN countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1985. Vietnam participated in the programme in 1996 while Laos and Myanmar participated in 1998, and Cambodia in 2000.

The aim of SSEAYP is to foster friendship and greater understanding among young people from Japan and ASEAN countries. It also seeks to broaden their international outlook.

A series of activities are lined up for the selected participants. The programme during the voyage include discussions on relevant social and youth issues, cultural introductions, sports, recreation and club activities. While activities at each Country port-of-call include interaction with the local youth, courtesy calls on dignitaries and institutional visits, as well as community service and homestay experience.

Italian Embassy Scholarship

The Italian Embassy is pleased to inform that, for the academic year 2010-2011, the General Directorate for Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is offering 16 monthly allowances as study grants to Filipino citizens, to be subdivided among the selected candidates.

Study grants are awarded by the Italian Government to foreigners as a contribution toward their studies and research in Italy, aiming at spreading the Italian language, culture and sciences abroad and at promoting cultural, economic and technological cooperation worldwide.

The grants must be spent for study or research at the following types of State or otherwise legally accredited institutions:

• Universities or Polytechnics;
• Institutes for advanced artistic or musical training;
• Restoration Institutes;
• National school of Cinema;
• Research labs or centers, libraries, archives and museums associated with graduate and undergraduate university courses in which the candidate is obliged to enroll.

Grants may not be awarded for study in the following contexts:

• Foreign Institutions (universities, academies, libraries, schools of any sort) even if they are located in Italy;
• Non-accredited private research centers or labs.

The only exceptions are the European University Institute - an intergovernmental university institution linked with community institutions - and legally accredited private universities, for courses leading to educational credentials with legal value in Italy.

Potential candidates are allowed to apply for study grants in the following courses:

• BRIEF LANGUAGE COURSES: possibly in preparation for enrolment in university and post-university degree courses in Italy.
• INDIVIDUAL UNIVERSITY COURSES: All subjects are included; at the end of the course the grant holder will be required to take the related examination. 
• DEGREE COURSES: Since enrolment in some degree courses involves a selection process, in accordance with Law no. 264/99, candidates are best advised to submit alternative study programs, even at more than one university, in order to avoid suspension of the grant in the case of non-admission to the course of study chosen. The same type of study and degree must be maintained. Once enrolled in a degree course, changes in type of study or location are no longer admissible, at the risk of annulment of the grant. 
• COURSES IN ADVANCED MUSICAL AND ARTISTIC TRAINING: To be completed at advanced music, art and dance training institutes (academies, conservatories, ISIA, etc.), at institutes of restoration and the National School of Cinema, for which a high school diploma is required.
• ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE COURSES FOR TEACHERS OF ITALIAN: Italian language and culture courses are reserved for non-Italian teachers of the Italian language and university students of Italian enrolled for at least 3 years. Grants are awarded for the study of the Italian language, and the teaching of it, at the universities for Foreigners in Perugia, Siena and Rome (Roma Tre) or other accredited institutions that issue certificates of Italian as a Second Language (L2).
• POST-GRADUATE UNIVERSITY COURSES: Courses for the Masters I and II level (of at least one academic year’s duration), doctorate in research and specializations:
• DOCTORATE IN RESEARCH. Each individual university has its own rules for admission to the doctorate in research, and it is recommended that these be consulted by checking the institution’s internet site. Since this is generally a competitive selection process, in order to increase the chances of success it would be advisable to apply to several universities.
• MASTERS. The diplomatic representations will see to it that grant candidates are informed of the high costs involved and the possibility that the masters program will require studying in institutions outside of Italy, sometimes for months at a time. Moreover, admission to a masters program often involves a selection process and a minimum number of students, therefore the grant holder should be informed of the real possibility of enrolling in the course since there is the risk of losing the grant benefit if the master course is cancelled.
• SPECIALISATIONS. Excluded are the medical disciplines (see Law no. 257 of 08.08.1991).
• RESEARCH: in all disciplines, with the obligation of enrolment in and attendance of undergraduate and post-graduate university courses. A letter of acceptance from the Dean of the academic institution is compulsory. At the end of the course the grant holder will be required to take an exam; such obligation does not exist  for grant holders enrolled at the CNR, at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and at other similar research institutions.

*Medically fit to undergo an active 6-month volunteer work
*Completed at least high school or secondary education
*Willing to do fundraising
*Willing to live and work with a British counterpart in a modest accommodation in a host family setting within a disadvantaged community in the Philippines and in the UK
*Flexible, open-minded and with a genuine commitment to learning
*Sensitive to the needs of others and can work within a team
*Can commit a minimum of 6 months (consecutive) to do 3 months of volunteer work in the Philippines and 3 months in the UK, and time to attend preparatory training

HORNBY EDUCATIONAL TRUST MA SCHOLARSHIPS

The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust was established in 1961 to support ELT practitioners from developing countries and countries in transition. Thanks to the Trust, hundreds of English language teachers have been able to develop their expertise through postgraduate courses in ELT and (applied) linguistics at UK universities. This year, the Hornby Educational Trust MA Scholarships is offering one scholarship place for an English language teacher or teacher trainer from East Asia. The Hornby Scholarship is for a one-year MA course in the UK starting September 09. Candidates should be individuals who will make a real difference on their return to their countries. Those practitioners who are able to make a mark on their profession, initiate development and reform programmes and who will act as an inspiration to colleagues are preferred

Funding Arrangements

The funding held by the Hornby Trust covers the costs of the entire programme, except for the airfare and the IELTS test, which will be covered by the local British Council office.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates should normally:

			have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK
			have at least 5 years’ hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school)
			have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers in ELT
			have attained a standard of English language competence broadly equivalent to Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories. *

* Shortlisted candidates who do not  have IELTS score will be asked to take the test in March 2010.

All candidates must indicate their commitment to take time out of their career to pursue the programme, and those assessing them will be looking for evidence of candidates’ potential to become leaders in their field and future decision-makers.
