British Council IELTS Scholarship for Filipino postgraduate students




A total of seven (7) students who are planning to attend a postgraduate degree abroad will be chosen and each will receive a scholarship amounting to $3,500. Scholarship payments will be made to the attending higher educational institution to assist students with their tuition.

To be eligible, applicants should comply with the minimum requirements:

  • be a Filipino national
  • be a Philippine resident with a valid passport
  • expected to attend a higher education institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements
  • take an IELTS exam with the British Council from January 2010 onwards
  • anticipate to begin postgraduate degree studies in 2011

Applicants should also:
  • be willing to attend a panel interview and assessment
  • be able to provide an original copy of acceptance letter from the higher educational institution applied for

Deadline of submission of documents

British Council must receive the following documents from prospective applicants by 31 March 2011.  Documents received after this date will no longer be considered.
  • completed application form
  • IELTS certificate or proof of registration
  • photocopy of passport
  • supporting documents  (e.g. disability certificate)

Interview and Assessment of shortlisted applicants
Twenty (20) shortlisted applicants will be notified by 18 April 2011. A panel interview will be conducted comprised of judges selected by the British Council.  A ten-minute presentation on the written task will also be required from short-listed candidates.



16 May 2011
Confirmation of award
Seven (7) successful candidates will be given confirmation of the scholarship award. Candidates are given until 30 June 2011 to provide original copy of the course acceptance from a higher educational institution abroad. Failure to comply shall result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.
